The Republic-Times newspaper in Waterloo, Ill., located less than 30 minutes from St. Louis, is seeking a passionate, well-rounded reporter and electronic media administrator to join the staff of its award-winning weekly publication and website.
As a reporter, the ideal candidate is responsible for covering an assigned beat and producing original content as well as editing and formatting press releases, submitted photos and other items for the paper. The ability to establish and maintain trusting relationships with local civic leaders, politicians, school officials and industry professionals is crucial.
Some nights and weekends are required.
As an electronic media administrator, the ideal candidate is responsible for posting articles, photos and breaking news events on our website, sharing items on social media and creating an email that reaches about 5,000 addresses.
Qualifications include a firm grasp of AP style, the ability to multi-task among multiple assignments under deadline pressure, an understanding of local journalism, and the understanding of the demands of an ongoing news cycle.
Prior newspaper experience is preferred. Recent college graduates with a strong portfolio may also be considered. Experience in photography is preferred but not required.
WordPress, InDesign and basic PhotoShop skills are essential.
