Reporter Openings

posted on

The State Journal-Register, an award-winning daily news organization in Illinois' state capital, is seeking to fill several reporting openings, including the city of Springfield beat. If you're a reporter who loves to write meeting stories and document turns of the screw, you probably won't fit in here. If you'd much rather be writing enterprise pieces and pursuing watchdog journalism, and if you embrace the idea of alternative story approaches that grab the attention of online readers, then this is the newsroom you want to be in. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is a strong writer, and a curious reporter who recognizes the urgency of online and is comfortable with social media and using online tools. Must have a college degree and good knowledge of AP style; at least one year's professional experience is preferred, but recent graduates with significant college experience and internships will be considered. Some positions may require night /weekend shifts. To apply, send a resume, a cover letter and no more than six links of your best work to Angie Muhs, executive editor, angie.muhs@sj-r.com. No phone calls, please. The SJR is an Equal Opportunity employer.
