Managing Editor – Chicago Lawyer Magazine

Serve as a senior member of the editorial department, leading Chicago Lawyer magazine, its website – chicagolawyermagazine.com, and as an assistant editor of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, chicagolawbulletin.com

Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee and coordinate the daily print and digital schedule for CLM and ensure timelines, deadlines and budgets are met. Write compelling content for the magazine, including features and cover stories as warranted; oversee the roster of columnists for the publication and assign/manage their schedules; work with designers to develop exciting layouts and designs; gather photographs and other images as needed; create new and engaging content for the chicagolawyermagazine.com website at least two-three times per week. Lead, manage and compile surveys for the magazine including our annual law firm and diversity issues. This includes assembling an advisory group to assist made up of peers in the community and oversight of any additional team members who are working on the data.

Write cover stories and content for Chicago Lawyer on a monthly basis.

Attend community and legal events, including bar association gatherings and client functions. Meet regularly with columnists or clients/sources to develop editorial content. Lead CLM Women’s Advisory Board meetings.

Serve as a backup to the editor of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and the editor will be a backup for you. This will include learning all aspects of the CDLB editor’s role. The team of reporters for the CL is shared with the CDLB. The CDLB editor will handle all reviews and hiring of reporters and additional staff, with input from the CL managing editor.
