The Associated Press is seeking one person to hire in each of the counties listed below to cover vote tabulation reporting on Election Night for the Illinois Primary on March 17, 2026. The March 17 assignment may also lead to opportunities to work the November 3 General Election and future elections.

Counties Hiring: Adams; Alexander; Brown; Bureau; Edwards; Fayette; Hamilton; Hardin; Henry; Jasper; Livingston; Macoupin; McHenry; Randolph; Richland; Shelby; Vermilion; Warren

Compensation: $100 base pay $25 additional for training

Requirements & Expectations: This is a non-partisan assignment. Individuals running for partisan office or working for a partisan campaign/party are not eligible. Notify AP of any other election night media work. Do not post photos or mention AP on social media while on assignment. Be respectful to all election officials and staff.

Election Night Duties: Arrive at county tabulation site 15 minutes before polls close. Call in results after every update. Report any notable developments (delays, issues, etc.) Remain available by phone/text throughout the evening. Stay to report the final unofficial vote count.

Payroll: AP Payroll will email instructions before the election to set up payment.

Training: A brief phone training will be scheduled before the election. Compensation for training is $25.

About the Role

The Illinois Press Association (IPA) is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and experienced Advertising Account Manager.  The IPA Account Manager will sell print + digital advertising space in local, regional and national newspapers and state-wide network programs through client-direct and agency relationships using IPA’s “One Call, One Order, One Invoice” advertising placement service. This position will be focused on securing new business revenue from non-traditional newspaper advertisers.

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the salesperson will be responsible for prospecting, presentation preparation, and meeting sales goals for the organization and its members.  

Job Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

• Understanding of newspapers and newspaper product portfolios including digital advertising, e-newsletters, rate cards, and deadlines
• Prospecting for new advertisers and servicing existing accounts
• Achieving sales goals as set by IPA management
• Meeting with the IPA President to review sales strategies and goals
• Working closely with IPA advertising support staff to execute media buys
• Coordinating with IPA team members on convention and special projects

Skills Required:

• Strong consultative selling skills - including prospecting, qualifying leads & cold calling
• Ability to set and achieve sales goals
• Exceptional customer service skills
• Ability to create in-depth presentations and media kits
• Proficient in working with numbers and calculating with percentages
• Ability to multi-task, coordinate multiple projects at once and to work independently or as a team
• Capable of working under deadline
• Knowledge of Windows operating systems

• Ability to work extensively at a computer and complete physical tasks as needed.
• Commitment to IPA’s policies and professional standards.

Compensation Package:

• Base salary, plus commission, plus medical, dental, vision, life and 401K match.
